Polaris Slingshot Reclassified in Wisconsin an an Autocycle
New Autocycle Classification Will Allow Consumers to Operate a Slingshot® with a Standard Driver’s License
Press release Tue, Nov 26, 3:17 PM
WISCONSIN (November 26, 2019) – Slingshot®, the ultimate three-wheeled roadster, has announced the state of Wisconsin has reclassified driving requirements for three-wheeled vehicles to “Autocycle.” Residents of Wisconsin can now operate the three-wheeled Slingshot with a standard driver’s license, rather than the previously-required motorcycle license or endorsement. The reclassification will take effect immediately.
With a steering wheel, a five-speed manual transmission and side-by-side seating, state policymakers recognize Slingshot’s operator skills mirror those required for a valid state driver’s license rather than a motorcycle license and as such, the need for the unique Autocycle classification. All states bordering Wisconsin currently classify Slingshot as an Autocycle.
“Since introducing the one-of-a-kind Slingshot in 2014, we have worked hand-in-hand with state officials to properly classify the operating requirements to a standard driver’s license in order to accurately represent the skills required to operate a Slingshot,” said Chris Sergeant, Vice President of Slingshot. “The new policy creates greater accessibility for drivers to get in, stand out and enjoy the unique open-air driving experience only a Slingshot can deliver.”

2020 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship Area Qualifiers and Regional Championships Dates Announced – First Area Qualifiers Kick off Feb. 15PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association and MX Sports are pleased to announce the AMA Area Qualifier and Regional Championship schedule for the 2020 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship presented by Lucas Oil.
“The top amateur motocross riders in the U.S. will once again qualify on tracks across the nation for their shot at an AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship,” AMA Director of Racing Kevin Crowther said. “For more than 35 years, the AMA has been sanctioning the national championship on the hallowed grounds of Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., and we are looking forward to another year of intense competition in the Area Qualifiers and Regional Championships.” AMA Area Qualifiers are the first step in qualifying for the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. The 51 Area Qualifiers begin in February and continue through the end of May. Racers of all ages compete in various engine displacement classes, from 50cc to 450cc, in the hope of advancing to a Regional Championship. The AMA Regional Championships then serve as the next step to seed riders into the annual AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at one of the 13 Regional Championship events are eligible to race the national championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. “We have assembled the best race tracks and the best organizers in America to produce the 2020 AMA Amateur National Championship area qualifier schedule,” said MX Sports Director Tim Cotter. “The competition between the hundreds of race tracks in America is very fierce. Each AMA track aspires to host one of these coveted events. The 51 Area Qualifier and 13 Regional Championship organizers are eager to greet the best amateur motocross riders in the world as they embark on their journey to The National Championship.” The AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship is one of the longest-running motorsports championships in the country. The AMA launched the national championship program in 1975. That year, a series of regional races qualified 135 riders in three classes — 125cc, 250cc and Open — for the championship round in Baldwin, Kan. In 1982, the AMA partnered with MX Sports and the event moved to its current location at the Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. There, the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship continues to crown the country’s top amateur motocross racers every summer. The Association works with local school and other officials each year to ensure a few families do not go without. “It’s all anonymous and we just do the shopping based on what we would want for ourselves. The dinners are complete right down to the vegetables and cranberry sauce.” Said current President Mark McGhee. This year the Emanon Riders Association delivered the food to a local school a few days ahead where it could be safely stored and then picked up discreetly when the families were picking up the kids. “We were given two families to provide for, one with 6 members and one with just two people”, Frank Rementer said. The Association raised the money through sales at a local flea market and sometimes puts on other events such as a Poker Run. “We also take on a couple families for Christmas and some members provide coats and winter clothing on their own. For many years we have raised money and donated to charities and so on, in fact our roots go back to the early 1980’s and we’ve just been quietly helping. Lately, for the last several years now we have also raised money for and volunteered to the Eastern PA Ride For Kids…we just believe in being a positive influence in the world”.

Yamaha Employees Donate Time for Public Lands Rehabilitation Projects
Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative Continues Tradition of Protecting Outdoor Recreation
MARIETTA, Ga., Nov. 20, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, employees continued their annual tradition of volunteering under the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI) in support of work projects on public lands – this year in both California and Georgia.
“Yamaha employees are investing personal time and actively working to protect access to land for outdoor recreation,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s Motorsports group marketing manager. “What started with a small group of Yamaha volunteers in Southern California has grown over a decade into coast-to-coast efforts with employees in multiple states on two different National Forests getting hands-on with their friends and families. As shown from our dedication for over a decade, the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative is an important program to all of us at Yamaha and all who value our public lands.”
In October, employees visited the San Bernardino National Forest, working alongside the Southern California Mountains Foundation crew planting seedlings, mulching, watering, slashing, and generally improving trails and areas around the popular Big Pine Flats OHV staging area.
Then in November, Yamaha employees supported work projects in Georgia on the Davenport Mountain OHV trails in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest alongside members of the United States Forestry Service (USFS) to clean and restore trails, along with improving entry for public recreation.
“Outdoor recreation is a major part of our lives, and with Yamaha’s longstanding history to giving back, and continued expansion in Georgia, we’re proud to grow the volunteer event to our new headquarters on the East Coast, allowing Yamaha employees across the country the opportunity to support and aid the outdoor community,” Nessl said.
For more than a decade, Yamaha OAI has led the motorized recreation industry in creating and defending access to land through efforts promoting safe, responsible use of OHVs, educating the public on proper recreational land use and wildlife conservation practices, and protecting appropriate and sustainable access to public lands for generations.
In addition to Yamaha’s employee volunteer events, Yamaha OAI contributed nearly $4 million in funding and equipment to more than 300 deserving grant recipients across the country over the past 11 years and has pledged $500,000 to support projects in 2019. Yamaha continues to seek OAI grant recipients for projects from ATV, Side-by-Side, motorcycle, snowmobile, and outdoor enthusiasts and associations – all of whom share the common need for land access to enjoy their lifestyle. About the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative
For more than a decade, the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative has led the Powersports industry in guaranteeing responsible access to our nation’s land for outdoor enthusiasts. Through this program, Yamaha has directly and indirectly supported thousands of miles of motorized recreation trails, maintained and rehabilitated riding and hunting areas, improved staging areas, supplied agricultural organizations with essential OHV safety education, built bridges over fish-bearing streams and partnered with local outdoor enthusiast communities across the country to improve access to public lands. Each quarter, Yamaha accepts applications from nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations including OHV riding clubs and associations, national, state and local public land use agencies, outdoor enthusiast associations and land conservation groups with an interest in protecting, improving, expanding and/or maintaining access for safe, responsible and sustainable public use. A committee then reviews each application and awards grants to deserving projects. Examples of appropriate projects for grants include, but are not limited to:
- Trail development, restoration, and maintenance
- Trail signage and map production
- Staging area construction, renovation, and maintenance
- Land stewardship, safety, and education

The 94th edition of the grueling off-road motorcycle competition, the longest-running world championship in motorsport, took place at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portiamo, Portugal, on Nov. 11-16. The United States last won the World Trophy title in 2016, its first ISDE world title. The United States had not won Women’s World Trophy title since 2007, the year that division debuted.
The U.S. Junior World Trophy team finished second place in its division, and the American XC Gear Club team was the top Club team, rounding out the most dominating U.S. performance in ISDE history.
“Congratulations to the U.S. ISDE World Trophy, Women’s World Trophy, Junior World Trophy and the XC Gear Club teams for their outstanding performance at this year’s ISDE,” AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman said. “Our World Trophy team battled hard to win our nation’s second overall ISDE title in four years, and our Women’s World Trophy team put in a dominating performance in Portugal. All of our ISDE riders did a great job representing our country at this prestigious international competition, and we are happy to welcome them home as FIM world champions of off-road motorcycle competition.”
The American World Trophy team of Steward Baylor, Taylor Robert, Kailub Russell and Ryan Sipes ended the first day of the event in second place before taking the lead from Australia for good on Day 3. The team’s margin of victory over Australia was 1:45.34. Robert paced the E2 Class, with Russell finishing runner up. Sipes was the second-fastest rider in the E1 Class.
